I'm Haziq, a medical student. This is the tool I wanted in first year and could not find.
Every lecture arrived as a PDF. To understand it I reread the slides or hunted for a video on the topic. To remember it I made Anki cards by hand, which took longer than reviewing them. To practice it I hoped a question bank covered what my professor had emphasised. Four apps, and not one started from the lecture I would be tested on.
What I wanted was simple to say: take the lecture and give me back the explanation, the cards, and the questions, all from the same slides. That is what SynapticRecall does: a narrated Story, an .apkg deck, and practice questions from one PDF or PowerPoint. The source slide is on the back of every card so you can check it. You can see one real lecture run through it before you upload anything.
What it deliberately does not do
- It does not replace AnKing, UWorld, or your course's question bank. Those cover the boards. This covers the lecture your professor wrote. I run both. Here is the comparison.
- It does not write NBME questions. The practice questions come from your lecture and are study aids. No exam board wrote or reviewed them.
- It is not right every time. It can miss a detail or stress the wrong thing. That is why the slide sits on the back of every card, and why the FAQ says to check it.
- It is not for patient care. It is a study tool.
How it is built
Language models generate the outputs from the text and slide images of your lecture. I write the prompts and revise them against real lectures, with the rules a careful student would use: objectives first, follow what the professor repeats, a sensible number of cards per slide, no facts the slides do not support.
It runs on our own servers. Your uploads make the materials you asked for and are not used to train a public model. The privacy policy covers storage and the services involved.
The upload page has a level selector for medical, nursing, PA, PT, dental, pharmacy, vet, and undergrad. It changes how the Story and the questions are pitched. The lecture is still the source.
